In the aftermath of the election

On Election Night, my mother came to watch the kids so my husband and I could take dinner to friends who had a baby that morning. We brought food to the hospital, I inhaled the smell of an hours-old baby deeply while his parents had a few minutes with free hands, and we all watched… Continue reading In the aftermath of the election

The Svan Signet High Chair is the worst

When it comes to baby gear, the market is flooded with absolutely gorgeous products. If you’ve ever crushed on a crib that costs as much or more than your bed (assuming you’ve upgraded from Ikea, but barely, e.g. West Elm or CB2 price range), like any of these super mod beauties from Oeuf, you know what I mean. These pretty, shiny things are how I was suckered into an overpriced piece of crap – the Svan Signet High Chair.

Weaning my First Baby Sucked

My second baby is still nursing. He’s nearly 14-months old and I’m not sure when he’ll wean himself, or if I’ll force him to do so. That’s not to say that I’ll nurse him until he’s starting preschool, or keep nursing him past the point where I want to, but I don’t have an end… Continue reading Weaning my First Baby Sucked

Dear parents of the friends of my teenage self

Last week while making a last minute trip to the bulk aisle of the grocery store with my toddler, I received a text from a friend. She is the cousin of an even older friend of mine. Note: This post also contains my first ever discount code! Hooray! It’s for the one item that I had in my diaper bag that turned out to be shockingly useful, so I want other people to get it too. You can  scroll to the bottom for it, but I hopefully have other relevant information shared here… Continue reading Why you need a diaper Go Bag

Hummus with a side of Epipen

As I’ve watched my older child steadily outgrow his food allergies, or at least those known allergies where we’ve been able to gradually increase his tolerance through small and safe amounts, it has apparently given me a false sense of security for my baby’s food allergies. This all came crashing down on Thursday.

A Bad Day of Toddler Assholery

My two-year old can be challenging, as I’ve heard two-year olds are wont to be. Some days this challenging behavior shows up as big mood swings, extended tantrums, or general freak outs over things that matter or not, like a big reaction to a scraped knee – which is totally legitimate – or a huge meltdown over… Continue reading A Bad Day of Toddler Assholery

Talking shit about my boys

It was a Friday as I was trying to get a very overtired baby to sleep, butt-patting with one hand and scrolling through moms group posts on Facebook with the other. It seemed like the mix of typical “thank God for WINE” posts, when I came across yet another anti-husband rant. It bothers me to… Continue reading Talking shit about my boys
